Teasha’s Self-Portrait

Posted some updated drafts (2-5).

It’s really busy I know, but it’s because of the piece that I made in the background that was also very busy. Me and simple/subtle/art have a very tumultuous relationship haha.

Feedback welcome!

  1. Teasha – this has a lot of passion and energy! But, yes, it’s a bit busy compositionally. I’m sending you a rough edit via email to give you an idea of how you might be able to give it some more structure. I love the punctuation of color amidst the b/w images and the screened element that serves as the background, but some of the lower contrast images feel a bit muddy. If you have time available this evening or tomorrow we could chat about some options via zoom. So much easier that way!

And busy isn’t always bad. Look up Jean Michel Basquiat for some beautiful stream of conscious (and socially conscious) art.

Also if you aren’t familiar with Julie Mehretu, check her out! What she’s doing with Photoshop in her new paintings is pretty fascinating.

  2. Hi Teasha! I love how much personality and color is in your self-portrait. Every time I look at your portrait I seem to uncover something different! There’s a lot to it and I think there are probably some areas that you could simplify, as Jason said, but I think it shows a lot about your character. I’m also enjoying the vibrant colors and the contrast between the black and white background.
